“Ray Amos May 16 2025 – Psalm 107:29”
From May 16th, 2025

He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. Psalm 107:29

The sun shines, and it rains on the just and the unjust. “How do people get along without the Lord?” They don’t, His grace comes to all of us every day. Some just do not know or acknowledge it.

How quickly life can show that we have no control over the forces of this world. God is not cruel; He doesn’t’ cause storms, floods, and fires any more than He causes hatred and terror. He comes to us in the storms of life with compassion and strong love. He never said that the sparrow would not fall, but He promised that when it does, He cares.

Jesus came to the disciples in their storm. He came walking upon the water. They misunderstood what they saw and became afraid of the one who had come to save them. Before the story ended, the waters were calm, and the storm had passed. Then the Gospel truth was known: The storm will not last forever, and when it is gone; beneath the rainbow, Christ will still be with us.

And when there is no rainbow to be seen, and the storm in our lives continues long after the thunder and rain, God is still with us. Even though the aftermath may seem like it will never end, still we press on. God is with us even then, and we trust that though the night is long, “Joy comes in the morning.”

“When the storms of life are raging stand by me, when the world is tossing me like a ship upon the sea, thou who rules wind and water stand by me.” Listen as he whispers sweet peace, “I am with you. I will never leave or forsake you.”

May this hymn be the prayer for all who are in a storm today: “Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more till the clouds roll forever from the sky. Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand Keep me safe till the storm passes by.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
