2 Kings 19:14
“After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, he went up to the LORD’s Temple and spread it out before the LORD.” 2 Kings 19:14
What have you brought to spread out before the Lord in prayer? Have you ever received troubling mail and showed it to the Savior? Hezekiah received a blasphemous letter from the king of Assyria demanding him to surrender Jerusalem and his kingdom. Hezekiah took the letter and spread it out before God in the Temple, asking him to intervene. Did it work? Yes, God defeated the enemy that very night.
God is unchanging, and we can bring anything to him in prayer; in fact, he expects us to.
Have we allowed the flames of fire in our prayer life to cool down to glowing embers while we sleep, and the world grows cold? Perhaps we should pray for the revival of prayer and not cease praying until it falls upon us like Pentecost. We can have a new boldness to our praying. God invites us to come boldly to the throne of grace to receive mercy and help in a time of need.
Nothing lies beyond the reach of prayer except what lies beyond the will of God. Let the servants of the Lord remember that all things are possible with God. “God of all power, forgive us when we fail to pray; and when we pray too small.”
The song asks, “How long has it been since you talked with the Lord, and told him your heart’s hidden secrets? How long since you prayed, how long since you stayed on your knees till the light shone through? How long has it been since your mind felt at ease, how long since your heart knew no burden? Can you call him your friend how long has it been since you knew that he cared for you.”
