Love is Not God
An admitted adulteress once told me and my elders that because she loved the man she was committing adultery with, she knew that God approved, because God is love and wanted her to be happy. The same basic premise is used to “sanctify” homosexual unions. “If two people of the same sex love each other and are willing to stay faithful for life, why shouldn’t they get married?”
We may transpose the wording of some statements without changing the truth. Whether we say, “We are mortal” or “Mortal we are,” the truth does not change—we are going to die.
Twice, John says “God is love” (1 John 4:8, 16). The reverse is not true: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world” (1 John 2:15-16).
God does not always love what we love, and no transposing of truth will change that.
