Romans 8:18

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18

“What do I preach?” The young preacher asked. He had been appointed to a congregation of people who intimidated him because they were seasoned professionals and he was green on the vine. The older minister answered, “Preach the Gospel, tell them about Jesus. They are not expecting you to be knowledgeable about every subject; but they want you to keep reminding them that Jesus is relevant in their world too.”

Job had friends who were experts on what was ailing him. The only problem was that they were not aware that they did not know what they were talking about. Job told them, “You are miserable comforters, all of you!” Job 16:2.

The longer I live the more I understand the verse, “For now we see through a glass darkly.” Jesus’ prayer, “Father, forgive them because they know not what they do,” is as much for you and me, as it was for the people who crucified Him.

The hymn says, “We’ll understand it all by and by.” Sometimes I wonder about that. I can’t imagine that in Heaven we will be interested in knowing about the whys of our life on earth. What I am sure of is that we will understand that the reason for all that God has given and withheld, is Perfect Love.

Heaven will surely be worth it all.
Worth all the sorrows that here befall;
After this life with all its strife,
Heaven will surely be worth it all.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
