1 Samuel 25:29

“…the life of my master will be bound securely in the bundle of the living by the LORD your God…”

Abigail sees something in David’s future, and she knows that he has the protection of the Lord. She used a beautiful term to describe how God would care for him. He would be “bound securely in the bundle of the living God?”

This implies that all of a believer’s life is bundled together and in the care of God; that is, all but what is unholy. Dear friend, what is in your life that you need to get rid of if God is going to bundle you in his love? What habits, attitudes, and sins need to be cast away because the Lord will not bundle wrong with right, or sin with goodness?

“Bundle” is such a simple word: a collection of things tied together. It is somewhat nostalgic (at least in my mind) because it once was an everyday word; it was how things were kept together; it kept things from becoming scattered and lost. We even call a newborn baby a “Bundle of Joy.”

I like the thought of our life being bound securely in the bundle of the Living God. I am tired of living scattered with bits and pieces of my life strewn everywhere. A life bound in Christ is a life that is together and tied with the unbreakable strings of Love; and the family of God is a people secured together by that same Love.

“Bind us together, Lord, bind us together
With cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together, Lord,
Bind us together in love.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
