Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
1 Peter 2:9
“You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
It is a peculiar group of people who make up the church. We enter the doors of God’s house each Sunday with a lot of baggage to unload and things to sort out. No one seems to feel that they deserve to be there; but all know that they belong. We agree on some things, and disagree on other; and for most, that is okay.
There is holy work we must do, but our hands are not clean. Our songs are about faith that some days we have, and other times we have misplaced. These are the saints, and these are the sinners; the two are one.
“To live above with saints we love; Oh, that will be glory. To live below with saints we know; now that’s another story.”
Church is a seeking place, a well of water where thirsty and weary souls are satisfied and strengthened to continue the journey a little longer. “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
When we come to judgment it will be with no fear. Not because we have been so faithful. Our clay feet have left a few muddy tracks. There is a word that give me joy for that day: it is Grace, the amazing grace of God.
“Sometimes life seems like words and music
That can’t quite become a song
So we cry and sigh then we try again
And wonder what could be wrong
But when we turn to the Lord at the end of ourselves
Like we’ve done a time or two before
We find His truth is the same as it’s always been
We never will need more
It’s not in trying but in trusting
It’s not in running but in resting
Not in wondering but in praying
That we find the strength of the Lord…”
