Avoid Becoming a Spiritual Couch Potato—Work Out
“The LORD will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me” (Psalm 138:8, NLT).
Perhaps Paul recalled this psalm when he wrote, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (Phil 1:6).
Paul went on: “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Phil 2:12-13).
God gives us life and breath to our bodies, but those bodies will deteriorate if we become couch potatoes. So it is with our spiritual bodies, and that is why Paul said, “For physical exercise has some value, but godliness is valuable in every way. It holds promise for the present life and for the life to come” (1 Tim 4:8, NET Bible).
