Does Where We Are Going Today Have the Lord’s Approval?

“Then they said to him, “Please inquire of God to learn whether our journey will be successful. The priest answered them, ‘Go in peace. Your journey has the Lord’s approval.” Judges 18:6-7

Does where we are going today have the Lord’s approval?

The journey could have been short, but it took forty years. God was leading them with a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. He supplied their every need, but it was never enough for them. They always wanted more and better. At the first sign of trouble, they were ready to run right back to the life that they had prayed to be free from.

It took forty years to get the old life out of their hearts. The ones who crossed over into the Promised Land were all a new generation with no memories of those days of bondage.

A little boy kept rolling out of bed at night. When asked, “Why?” He answered, “Because I sleep too close to where I get in.” His answer is quiet profound. It may be very reason that some of us cannot seem to get any closer to God. We want to hang around close to the life we once lived before we met Jesus; and that is the very place that temptation has its greatest influence.

We must get on down the road if we are going to get to where we are going. Look the old cravings in the face and say, “No More!” Do not turn back, “Remember Lot’s wife.”

“Go and sin no more,” Jesus said to a woman set free; would He say less to us? “Grow up!” is what Paul said to some Christians. Get rid of the baby bottle and take hold of the meat of the Gospel. If you are going to start something, then finish it is what Jesus taught. “Otherwise, if you lay the foundation and are unable to finish the work, everyone who sees it will ridicule you…” Luke 14:29

Aunt Clara had a cow that would break through the fence to graze on the other side, and then, break through again to come back home. Is it possible that we as Christians sometimes try to graze the wild grass on the other side of the fence, and then, sneak back into the green pastures in the fields of the Lord? Something to chew on today.

“Some day life’s journey will be o’er
And I shall reach that distant shore,
I’ll sing while entering Heaven’s door
‘Jesus led me all the way.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
