But Each One is Tempted When He is Drawn Away

“But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.” James 1:14

The spider wove a web with a beautiful design. There was no lacework in the land any more perfect than this cozy pattern. He had trained the sound of deception clear out of his voice, and now, the little trickster seemed almost down-home friendly. All was set as a fly buzzed by; and the cute little spider began to speak.

“Will you walk into my parlor?’ said the Spider to the Fly.”

One of the dangerous tools in the Devil’s hands is flattery. The thing that is worse than a flattering tongue is the heart that believes it.

With wisdom the fly faced every temptation to land on the web; but it could not resist when the spider said, “Come hither, hither, pretty Fly, with the pearl and silver wing; your robes are green and purple – there’s a crest upon your head…”

There is another kind of web woven by Satan himself. It is as eye catching as anything we might see. Not only does he make sinful things appear beautiful, but also to seem right. Talk about pleasure; it is there for anyone willing to dance in his parlor, but beware; the fiddler will collect his due.

You can beg, and reason, fight and plead with people to not go there; but there are so many webs in a society where anything goes, and the spider waits for the next one to “walk into his trap.”

Who hasn’t walked into a spider web stretched across the dark path? And how many times have we been entangled in a way so inviting, and innocent, but it was not? We quickly get out of the first web, and I pray that we do the same with the other. We have Good News! Jesus is a master at untangling webs and giving us a clean start to the day.

“Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night, Jesus I come, Jesus I come. Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light, Jesus I come to Thee.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
