Grace Sufficient

David confidently wrote, “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth” (Psalm 145:18). We see the essentials of prayer—truth is declared essential, and faith is demonstrated.

We are reminded of the words of James regarding asking God for wisdom: “…when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord” (Jam 1:6-8).

James also said, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures” (James 4:3).

When approaching God’s throne in faith and truth, we can do it with the same confidence which David had, for we are urged to “…approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

When Paul asked for the removal of the thorn from his flesh, he received grace sufficient instead. We may not always get what we ask for, but if we ask in faith and truth, we will always get grace sufficient.
