Hearing Boisterous Winds But Have Trouble Hearing God
“…blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29
It is so easy to focus on the size of our trouble instead of seeing the greatness of God.
Life had seemed it’s worst when the king’s advisers told David that even God could not help him now. He knew better; and so, he spoke: “You O Lord are a shield to me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head. I cried unto you with my voice, and you heard me…I will not be afraid.” Ten thousand enemies were all around him, and yet he slept in perfect peace because the Lord was his keeper. (Psalm 3)
Some may be feeling a little discouraged with things right now. At such times we can hear the boisterous wind but have trouble seeing God.
“Jesus, I cannot seem to see you in my trials, but I know that you are near. The words of the song say, ‘I thought I had to see and feel; to prove that what I loved was really real…”
Lord: I believe but help my unbelief. The fears and trials will be over one of these days. The troubles of this life, the tangled web of sin, sickness and the frightening things of a stormy world will all dissipate like dew in the sun. None of them can resist your voice when you say, “No more!”
Then we will see throughout eternity the things that are invisible today: the face of God with love that is always nearby. So today I will sing: “My faith still holds on to the Christ of Calvary. Oh, blessed Rock of Ages cleft for me; I gladly place my trust in things I cannot see. My faith still holds on to the Christ of Calvary.” Amen
