Doing Good

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

2 Thessalonians 3:13

“…never tire of doing what is good.”

“Doing Good”

We are likely, at some point, to face the temptation to “throw in the towel.” I use that expression because it is a boxing term for accepting defeat. Doing good can seem like a boxing match against many opponents.

The Lord knew it would be this way, so he gave us the words in today’s text. The Bible says that Jesus went about doing good and healing. I wonder if our Lord ever wanted to just quit, turn in the keys to the Kingdom, and go back home. The good that he did for others often stirred up the bad in some people who tried to take away his joy, but they could not.

I notice a couple of things as I think about our Savior on earth: Not once did he ever complain about the unkind ways people treated Him, and He kept on doing good. May the words of Edgar Guest encourage someone today.

“When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you are trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit –
Rest if you must, but do not you quit.

Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And when you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar.
So, stick to the fight when you are hardest hit –
It is when things seem worst,
You must not quit.”

“… never tire of doing what is good.” 2 Thessalonians 3:13
