Refreshing Your Thirst for Living Water
“David longed for water and said, ‘Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!” 2 Samuel 23:15
Refreshing Your Thirst for Living Water . . .
I have never been offered stale water at any meal. Jesus offered living water to all who would come and drink. Why then do we as Christians and churches tend to splash in stagnant water?
We do not need a Gospel polluted by our own interpretation of Scripture, and neither do we need bottled religion that meets human standards, but not God’s. King David once longed for a drink of water from his hometown of Bethlehem. May God renew our thirst for water from Heaven, true water that Christ alone can give.
Our Lord wants our lives to be so much more than we often experience. Yesterday’s testimonies were great in their day, but they can become stale if we have nothing to say about what God is doing here and now. It is the only way that some will hear that God is still with us. The woman at the well in John 4 was a living example of how Jesus can make a dried-up life to be a well of living water that refreshes the people around us.
“As a dear pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” Psalm 42:1 That is my prayer too.
“Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord,
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul,
Bread of heaven, feed me ’til I want no more,
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.”
