Sacredness in Tears

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

Psalm 56:8 NET

“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.”

“Sacredness in Tears”

Washington Irving wrote, “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and unspeakable love.”

Have we lost the ability to weep for the Spiritual brokenness around us? What has happened to the tears that once motivated the people of God to action? No tears in Heaven is a beautiful promise of eternal joy, but no tears on earth hinder our getting there.

When a friend grieves and we have had no words to speak, our silent tears have said it well. When our innermost thoughts are impossible to tell, tears will say enough.

Someone asked, “What is missing in our churches today?” I have thought about many things, but the answer in my heart is “tears;” powerfully quiet tears. They are the fuel for Heaven’s lamps, the flame that flickers on the candlestick of God’s Love.

In Heaven, when God wipes away the tears from our eyes, then we will know that our work on earth is done. It will be as a dear friend of mine sings, “I cried my last tear, yesterday.”

“Often you wonder why tears come into your eyes,
And burdens seem to be much more than you can stand.
But God is standing near, He sees your falling tears,
Tears are a language God understands.

God sees the tears of a brokenhearted soul.
He sees your tears and hears them when they fall.
God weeps along with man and takes him by the hand,
Tears are a language God understands.”

“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” Psalm 56:8 NET

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
