Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places

The song Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places was very popular, and our oldest had just fallen in love with the young man to whom she has now been married for 43 years. As we went over the rivers and through the woods to Grandma’s house, we were serenaded—perhaps inundated—by the song.

Many are looking for love in all the wrong places—wealth, pleasure, popularity, and whatever else promises fulfillment. All of these are false-hearted lovers, and like all false-hearted lovers, they will lead us to the grave:

Now courting’s a pleasure
And parting is grief
But a false hearted lover
Is worse than a thief
For a thief he will rob you
And take all you have
But a false hearted lover
Will lead you to the grave

When we, like the prodigal son, look for love in all the wrong places and end up in the pig pen of sin, we need to come to our senses and go home to a Father whose love is without end. He will not rescue us against our will, but he will race to embrace us (Luke 15:20).
