Mugged By Money

We usually fear being mugged for our money; few of us take precautions to prevent being mugged by our money. It is not the money itself that’s the problem. The problem lies in our desire for money and the things it buys. Agur wrote, “First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs! For if I grow rich, I may become content without God. And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name” (Prov. 30:8-9, TLB).

One can live at the official poverty line and be rich in faith, and one can be materially wealthy and be rich in faith. On the other hand, one may be discontented at any level of income or net worth.

Early to bed and early to rise;
Up in the morning, kinda crosswise.

No time to talk; no time to eat.
Gotta hurry to work, a deadline to meet.

No time for family; no time for church.
The work of the Lord is left in the lurch.

It’s doggerel verse, not Shakespearean literature, but can you relate to it?
