“JESUS KNOWS US BETTER THAN DOES GOD!”
J. Oswald Dykes (1835-1912) connected Psalms 103:13-14 and Hebrews 2:17; 4:15, with the following words: “The thought which I desire, by the comparison of these texts, to suggest is this: how the compassion of God for men disclosed in the Old Testament has grown in the New into the fellow-feeling of Christ. We have not lost our Father’s pity; we have gained a Brother’s sympathy.” God remembers that we are dust. Jesus knows what it means to be dust. Jesus was like us in every respect, except he did not sin. Whatever emotions we might experience, he experienced, with the exception of guilt.
Here are the two passages: “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust” (Psalms 103:13-14). “Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people….For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 2:17; 4:15).
There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus —
No, not one! no, not one!
None else could heal all our soul’s diseases —
No, not one! no, not one!
Refrain:
Jesus knows all about our struggles,
He will guide till the day is done;
There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus —
No, not one! no, not one!
No friend like Him is so high and holy —
No, not one! no, not one!
And yet no friend is so meek and lowly —
No, not one! no, not one! [Refrain]
There’s not an hour that he is not near us —
No, not one! no, not one!
No night so dark but His love can cheer us —
No, not one! no, not one! [Refrain]
Was e’er a gift like the Savior given?
No, not one! no, not one!
Will he refuse us a home in heaven?
No, not one! no, not one! [Refrain]
