THOUGHT FOR TODAY, JANUARY 15, 2019: JOB VINDICATED [Job 40-42]

>

God rebuked Job’s friends, telling them to go to Job, offer sacrifices, and ask Job to pray for them, “for I will accept his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has” (42:8). God then blessed Job with wealth and honor, and he saw his sons’ sons for four generations” (42:12-17).

We must not overlook Job’s last response to God, which came just before God pronounced him justified: “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ [Job is quoting God, 38:2]. Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. ‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you make it known to me’ [Job again quotes God, 38:3].

Job has now seen God: “I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes” (42:1-6).

Those, who like Job, are confident of their case before God (23:3-5), have never come face to face with the Holy God of heaven. If they never come face to face with him in life, they will in death. It will then be too late to repent in dust and ashes.

CONNECTIONS

1. Have you only heard of God or have you come face-to-face with him?

2. Because Job was vindicated by God before man, does that mean that we will always be vindicated before men? You will find the answer in Revelation 6:9-11.
