Who/What Do You Trust?

After describing the deaf, mute, lifeless idols of humanity, the psalmist warned, “Those who make them are like them; so is everyone who trusts in them” (Psalm 135:18).
Of all the Commandments, the first seems most irrelevant to modern worshipers: “You shall have no other gods before Me.” We don’t fashion gods of gold and silver, wood and stone, but we are not without our gods. An individual or a nation’s god is whatever they trust.
JFK said, “Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man.” Bill Clinton said, “There’s nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what’s right with America.”
Since these confident statements, every measurement taken has shown an America in decline—economically, socially, spiritually, morally, and intellectually (75% of Americans aged 17-24 cannot pass the military entrance exam).
Let’s drill down to the heart of the matter: Who do you trust? “This is what the LORD says, ‘Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the LORD’” (Jeremiah 17:5, New Living Translation).
