“WE OUGHT TO BE THANKFUL FOR A FORGETFUL GOD!”
God is not an absent-minded old man. He forgets nothing he wants to remember. However, God chooses to forget some things. David pleaded: “Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O LORD! Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, For they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord” (Psalms 25:6-7).
Many conscientious Christian worry that when they stand before God on the last day, that God will bring up all past transgression, if not to condemn, at least to embarrass. If we have thrown ourselves on the mercy of God, as did David, there will be no record of our wrongs. David’s name is mentioned 54 times in the New Testament. Not a single word is said about any sin David committed. David wrote, “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit” (Psalms 32:1-2). Paul quoted the passage in Romans 4:7-8, assuring us that what God did for David, he will do for us—choose to forget our sin.
The chimes of time ring out the news
Another day is through
Someone slipped and fell
Was that someone you?
You may have longed for added strength
Your courage to renew
Do not be disheartened
For I have news for you
It is no secret what God can do
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you
With arms wide open He’ll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do
There is no night; for in His light
You never walk alone
Always feel at home
Wherever you may go
There is no power can conquer you
While God is on your side
Take Him at His promise
Don’t run away and hide
It is no secret what God can do
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you
With arms wide open He’ll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do [Stuart Hamblen]
