Experience God’s Peace, Which Exceeds Anything We Can Understand
“…You will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
“Ah! soul, are you here without comfort and rest, marching down the rough pathway of time? Make Jesus your friend ere the shadows grows dark; O accept this sweet peace so sublime!”
The leaves have fallen; the winter trees are bare and revealing. High in a tree over a bench is a hornet’s nest. People have sat on that bench all summer and enjoyed perfect peace. In another place boys run home with red swollen and painful spots because they too found a hornet’s nest and could not leave well enough alone.
It is the week of Advent Peace. “O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie.” Who would have known that Herod was stirring up a hornet’s nest, and in your streets, Rachel would soon weep for her children? Christmas is not always joyful and peaceful for everyone.
Peace is not the absence of trouble, but “Immanuel,” the presence of God in our broken world. It truly is beyond understanding how when things can be so wrong, God’s peace can calm our heart with unexplainable Love. That is a Christmas Miracle.
“Peace, peace! wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above,
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,
In fathomless billows of love.”
