Jesus Who Said “I Am” and Our Becoming

Yesterday’s devotion was on Jesus who said “I am”. That means He is everything He needs to be . . . but we are “Saved by His Grace . . . and becoming”. Read the Book of John where Jesus makes several statements about “I Am”.

There was an old saying when I was growing up . . . A compliment so to speak . . . If someone saw someone pretty or handsome, they would say that person is “becoming”.

After living more than a number of years, I can tell you that “becoming” is anything but “pretty”. When a person gets saved, they are not finished . . . they are becoming.

God says in Romans 3:10
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”

It is written:
Matthew 7:1-3 King James Version (KJV)
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

As children of God, we are all becoming . . . and it is not a pretty picture . . . But is the very reason why we should not judge God’s other children and let them become and grow in the eyes of the Lord . . . not through our own eyes.

As if I need to make one . . . Case in point: Sometimes, the only exercise I can do is Chi Gong . . . I use a CD in which the teacher elegantly teaches with very pronounced stretches and moves . . . while I look like a frog trying to roll up a tree. I make sure I am in a place, that if I fall, It is not too far. It is anything but “a pretty picture” but I am in hope that what I am doing is going to help.

The process of becoming involves “transformation”. Trying to achieve some degree of nightly comfort, I bought a pillow recently, very pretty . . . had 5 stars. I paid way too much for that pillow. Because it had five stars by everyone who purchased it, I was convinced that I was doing something wrong. I tried it sideways, back ways and sometimes upside down . . . It wasn’t their 5 stars, it was me . . . I would give that pillow a -1000 stars but I didn’t. What works for some people doesn’t work for others.

However, I my next pillow purchase was 1/8 of the cost. It had something special . . . a zipper where filling could be taken out or added. This pillow works . . . “Because it can be transformed.”

When we are saved, God has not completed the work in us . . . Like my pillow, He transforms us by adding stuffing or taking away . . . So that, we, His children . . . can “become”.

I truly enjoyed this devotion toda. Thank you. I certainly made me stop n think !!! Seems I'm guilty of judging not only of people but of situations. Not something I'm proud of 😞
