Deuteronomy 31:6
DEVOTION FOR TODAY, May 3, 2020
“Reach Out, Reach Up, Reach Within”
It was in grade school when my aunts came in for a visit. They had all lost their parents as children and had led rather hard scrapped lifestyles.
How can I forget the day we were sitting in a booth at the local restaurant? One of my aunts puts her fists together and looks at me and says, “You are going to have to learn how to fight!”
I must have looked her like she had eight square shaped eyes and had lost hundreds of her marbles. After all, on quick inventory, I was a scrawny kid and weighed 46 pounds soaked and wet.
Through the years I have thought of that day and smiled and today when I pondered on it . . . I have learned that it wasn’t fists of anger that has gotten me through adversity but reaching for the fire inside me . . . The fire that you reach for when you have to go forward, whether in adversity or when something is lost. God gives us all strength that we most often don’t know that we have. All we have to do is reach out, reach up and reach within, then tithe that strength to others.
Deuteronomy 31:6 – “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
