“Story of the Widow’s Mite”
After grocery shopping and delivery to Shades of Grace, $10 was mailed to us by a widow in our community who really couldn’t afford it. Nate layed it on the table . . . She said to use it how we saw fit. Knowing that it couldn’t buy too many groceries and actually, just wanting to give it back to her, Nate asks, “What are we going to do?” “Let me think about it, ponder and pray about it.” I said.
Sitting at my desk, I knew that whatever I did, the the $10 had to go as far as I could possibly make it stretch, then I would report back to her.
Remembering that I had found disposable razors in bulk for the homeless, I started my search. Finding 500 razors for $39.00, I was elated to call her and tell her how far her $10 went. On her own, she had purchased 125 razors. She was so happy and surprised that money sent, made such a difference.
The Widow’s Offering
Luke 21:1-4
1. Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box.
2. He also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins.
3. He said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put in more than all of them.”
4. For they all offered their gifts out of their wealth. But she, out of her poverty, put in everything she had to live on.
