2 Timothy 2:2
“We All Can Be Mentors”
“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
When I was exercising this morning, I remembered one of my mentors. He was a professor at our school and lived in the house directly behind where I rented.
As a young girl, he looked absolutely ancient to me . . . 80 maybe 90, at least.
However, watching him out the window doing flips and exercising on his backyard monkey bars, I marveled that he would embrace exercising as a normal and scheduled part of his fitness, physically, emotionally, and as part of his overall experience towards a healthy and enduring lifestyle.
He was probably watching me out his window as I practiced my acrobatics for exhibition. I knew that my acrobatic offering wasn’t great but my school wanted my talents and needed them at that time.
In my thirties, new decisions had to be made about keeping fit which brought a routine that has served well throughout the years . . . Wanted to keep exercises which could be done as a younger self but also could be done as an older person . . . And in any type of weather.
Sometimes when the professor’s teaching schedule and my classes lined up, we would walk to school together. He would say, “Promise me that you will keep going to school and never shop learning. Remember to keep yourself physically exercised, as well. It will help keep you alert, focused and healthy.”
Thankful for my professor who led by example and did some of his best teaching as we walked to school together.
