What Ever Happened To SOMEONE ELSE?

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for men”

“Colossians 3:23”

“I call ’em as I see ’em,” one baseball umpire remarked to two others during a discussion of their profession. “I call ’em as they are, another added. But the third one ended the debate with “They aren’t anything until I call ’em.”

Leaders set the stage, strike the tone, and always make the crucial difference. But each leader can’t teach what he or she does not know, nor can he or she lead where he or she cannot, or will not go.

Know that we, as examples and witnesses, can’t leave everything to “SOMEONE ELSE”.

“SOMEONE ELSE” may be gone now,. “SOMEONE ELSE” left quite a vacancy when they left. “Else” had been with us for many years, and did just about everything, really more than his share of the work load.

Whenever leadership and a volunteer was required, this excellent Example was
always looked to for inspiration as well as results. “SOMEONE ELSE can do it” . . . Everyone recommended.

When that one, with huge personal problems, needed guidance, we didn’t have to look hard to know who would handle his difficulty. Of course, “SOMEONE ELSE” would take care of it.

Who was “SOMEONE ELSE”? They were a super Witness and Example, but they are gone now. We are wondering what we are going to do now that “SOMEONE ELSE” isn’t handy.

What a leader . . . what an example to follow, but who’s going to follow it? Who is going to do the things we always confidently left to “SOMEONE ELSE?”

Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Our chief want in life is somebody who shall inspire us to do what we can.”

That’s a pretty good idea In our spiritual lives, too. Great souls prove their greatness by “making opportunities” where others might find reason for complaint.

The New Testament puts it well, in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for men” . . . And from Titus 3:1-2, “Remind them… to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all men.”
