Ruth 3::11
A Biblical Tribute To Wilma Dean Byington – Happy Birthday!
Virtue: Moral excellence, demonstrated goodness, and righteousness; comes to us from the Hebrew, ‘sdakah,’ standing for the establishment among Godly people, that honesty, justice, and equity will prevail, through God’s divine Spirit, among all peoples.
The person whose virtuous years and 90th Birthday we celebrate this evening certainly typifies the best of virtue. A Bible verse familiar to most of us is Ruth 1:16. Following the passing both their husbands, Daughter-In-Law Ruth declared to her Mother-In-Law Naomi, “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from the following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.”
But as always, with the Word of God, there is more….so much more! Naomi tells her Daughter-In-Law in Ruth 3:11, “And now, my daughter, fear not: I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.”
Here among the community of friends and neighbors who both know and love Wilma Dean Byington, certainly testifies that she is indeed, “a virtuous woman!
Proverbs 31:10 asks of us, “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs goes on 21 verses later, carefully highlighting the several qualities contributing to a virtuous, wise, and fine woman. Proverbs 31:13 states “She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh diligently with her hands.”
Wilma Dean certainly put her beautiful hands to good use. “If could work outside, I did. I loved outdoor work,” she often shared! It’s as if Proverbs 31:16 was written just for her, “She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.”
Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think of these things.”
And there’s more, in the following verse, 4:9, [and may we prayerfully insert the precious name of Wilma Dean Byington in an appropriate place:] “Those things, which ye have both learned (from Wilma Dean), and received (from Wilma Dean), and heard (from Wilma Dean,) and seen (in Wilma Dean,) do: and the peace of God shall be with you all.”
