John 15:11

Daddy, Wha’d You Bring Me?

Oh, how many times did I hear my children ask for what I had brought back from the several countries I toured while a U.S. Navy Chaplain. It was my joy to share something of my travels with them.

Likewise, it is our Saviour’s joy to share with us the blessings that we’ve received. “These things have I spoken unto you,” Jesus says in John 15:11, “that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”

“It’s not how far you’ve traveled, ” a wise sojourner has observed, “It’s what you’ve brought back.”

We’ve all been traveling a momentous national (and international) health emergency. It’s not been easy, and there’s probably not one of us who would like it all to be over and gone.

But each journey we travel has something “to bring back.” Psalm 37 reveals King David as “I have been young, and now I am old,” we find in in verses 25 and 26, “yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth, and his seed is blessed.”

“Trust in the lord,” King David wisely instructs us in Psalm 37:3-5, “and do good; also that thou shalt dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

What’s the way through our health pandemic? We don’t have play book, nor set of directions, no GPS. BUT WE ARE NOT LOST! We do have a book of sure and time tested instructions…God’s Holy Word….the Holy Bible!

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,” Psalm 37:23-24 encourages us, “and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.”
