Isaiah 62:3

Easter Monday Springing Forth

It was the day after Easter Sunday when Christianity was in its infancy, Christians came to church to laugh, play, sing and dance. Next to Easter’s Resurrection Sunday Service, It was the happiest of any day of the year!

Also called “Day of Joy and Laughter,” and “Bright Monday,” Easter Monday was a day in which Christians returned to church to celebrate how Almighty God had turned the tables on Satan for all time and eternity, by raising Jesus from the dead. It was also a time to share a meal, and watch children play games, and to play playful “practical jokes” on one another, reminiscent of how the Lord God had entirely tricked the Evil One.

Easter Monday was one of the earliest practices of our Christian faith, a time of the redeemed in Christ to joyously laugh! The liberated in Christ exercised their freedom. God had performed the impossible…..again….! As in Isaiah 62:3, “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.”

Easter Mondays now meld into days, even weeks, on into an uncertain future. We can trust God, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37) “Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily.” (Isaiah 58:8)

We all wait for a return to the new normality. Whatever the future holds, we are certain who holds the future! God has not stepped off the throne. God remains our source and our strength, “And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.” (Psalm 37:40)
