Gospel of John, Chapter 21, Verses 1-14
“And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.”
“STRENGTH OF THE NET”
“God’s raising of an adult is more than their line of work, their apparel, the way they present themselves and more than a their worldly accessories.
Their inner soul represents something bigger than the wearer, or in a couple of words, “something more.”
How often does this happen? The newly-reported Christian carefully examines themselves with a particular sense of eagerness, excitement and enthusiasm, not just to be, but to become more.
We wouldn’t want it any other way, just as a fisherman would insist on the strongest net, with the tightest knots possible.
John, a Disciple of Jesus Christ, told of an incident when a number of fisherman were surprised that their strong nets didn’t break, even though they had hauled in their biggest catch.
You’ll find the account in the New Testament, the Gospel of John, Chapter 21, Verses 1-14. It seems that there were seven commercial fishermen on the Sea of Galilee. They were fishing one night with Simon Peter, one of Christ’s closest Disciples. This was the usual fishing
routine, but something about it all was not so ordinary.
After fishing all night, they hadn’t caught a thing!
Early the next morning Jesus of Nazareth, while standing on the shore of the lake, and knowing full well that the fishermen were skunked, said, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat.”
They did, and what a catch! When it dawned on the fishermen that this was indeed Jesus Christ.
The Son of God, they were startled. Particularly upset was Peter who plunged over the side.
Soon, things began to settle down, and the men went back to their nets, and kept hauling in some really impressive lunkers.
Simon Peter began to lend a hand (after he got ahold of himself), and pulled in 153 of the biggest fish that he had ever seen.
Funny thing, though, it was not the large fish that puzzled Simon Peter.
It really got him that his net didn’t break!
The story goes on to tell of a very special meal with the seven fishermen dining with Jesus on the shore of the lake.
Yet, for us, a few points are left for us to think about.
Now, if God would preserve a net from breaking . . . how about you, When you come to the end of your rope? When things are way out of hand, who or what “ties a knot at the end of your rope?”
God says that He will, Just as He has!
Another point, is when we are burdened with some pretty large and overpowering problems, will our net hold? Simon Peter’s did, and for a fact, he was simply amazed that his net held!
You don’t have to be amazed at the goodness of God, just accept it!
Paul wrote in the New Testament’s Book of Romans, Chapter 11, Verse 33, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out !”
Just trust Him; just trust in God. Regardless of the trials of life, He will keep your net from breaking. When things appear to be too much, He will not let you come to the end of your rope. God always has a knot securely tied at the end of your life’s rope if you trust Him, it will not slip.
In God’s growing and raising of an adult, he always gives us much more to think about as He matures us.
