Pastor Will Shewey, Shades of Grace United Methodist Church

May 16, 2016 – Another day at Shades of Grace has ended.

We are a church that receives lots of unusual calls on a daily basis. Today we received calls requesting ..

1. A motorized wheelchair
2. A wooden box to bury a grandfather in
3. A mop bucket, mop, dust pan and broom
4. Someone wanted a haircut (obviously wrong number)
Last week someone called asking for colostomy bags

On a positive note, we paid for prescriptions for several folk, including a 3 year old who had run a nail through a foot while playing, and directed several people where to get furniture.
never a dull moment at Shades

May 15, 2016 – A productive afternoon at Shades of Grace.

Three persons/families have secured housing and will be off the streets by midweek.

One lady has been homeless a little over a year. Today is her daughter’s 17 birthday and mom has passed all the requirements for gaining custody again. This is a celebration.

Our capable volunteer staff of pastors and laity does a great job of helping facilitate positive changes. We are directing them to furniture and household items.

We will be sending folk Thursday with Pastor Chris Brown to purchase photo IDs and birth certificates. We have now passed the 230 number of IDs in a little over 2 years. Faithful partners of the ministry make this all possible.

Today, we received a check from Bedford, Indiana from someone we’ve never met. Our new friend Brian K. Mills from Orlando, Florida volunteered all day. He is in Tennessee to care for his dad in hospice care. Pray for his family.

Pray for a precious family as they prepare tonight to say earthly goodbyes to a son, dad and brother. He is my nephew.
Why not come by and join Journey thru Grief tomorrow with Pastor Michele Beck, one of our volunteer staff pastors ? Meeting begins at 10:30 am.

May 13, 2013 – Weekend has arrived.

Do your plans include a time of worship? May I invite you to to Shades of Grace, a United Methodist congregation? We will host the community meal 2:30-3:30 and this week is prepared and served by Cross Point Church of Kingsport.

This storefront house of worship welcomes all who seek a place in the kingdom of God. Time of worship is pretty much non-traditional.

You will likely hear music and hymns that are familiar and participate in liturgy of our Christian faith. You may hear songs presented ‘open mic’ style, and you may hear bluegrass or contemporary selections.

Yes, it will be an eclectic mix, representing our very diverse and interesting community downtown. All will be freely offered in the name of Jesus Christ, as we celebrate the 5th Sunday in Easter.

I take this time to offer best wishes to all ladies on this Mothers Day weekend. Sunday worship will be all about Jesus, so holidays are not mentioned during that time. Remember, casual dress is always acceptable in this storefront ‘church’ building. Service begins at 4:00 p.m.!
