From Pastor Will Shewey:
Advent began in a joyous celebration today at Shades of Grace, a United Methodist congregation.
Our 10:30 am worship service was well attended. Musicians led inspiring singing and introduced holiday favorites. At Shades, we sing Christmas carols and hymns all throughout Advent and focus on the weekly theme. Today we shared HOPE.
Everyone had left the building and I was turning off the lights when a young man knocked on the door. He was still wearing a hospital bracelet and had a prescription that required filling. Someone had advised him to come to us for help. I was able to get clean shirt and pants for him from our closet at his request. He thanked me for providing medicine and asked if I had a business card. I gave him our card. It is true that people arrive at our doors at all hours of day and night seeking assistance. Jesus was sick and we helped bring healing today.
We were so blessed to have Nikki Novella Dullyback on the front row after another lengthy experience at hospitals.
Update on Carla…. If you remember, she was struck by a car about 5 or 6 weeks ago. She was finally released from the hospital this week and is again living in the streets. We spoke with her and she thanked everyone for caring.
One of our parishioners was arriving for church and had a steaming cup of hot coffee. Thanks to Deborah for freely giving your comforting cup to her on a frosty morning. Jesus was thirsty and you gave Him drink.
Everyone continue to pray for all who are feeling hopeless and helpless. May our advent journey bring us closer to Bethlehem’s Christ each passing day..”

It’s amazing how so many wandering souls make their way to our doors every day. Lord, May we be faithful to your call.
