Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11
Why do we, the church of this age, not have the same passion as the saints of earlier times?
When I was a young pastor there was an older saint who would ask me, “Brother Preacher, are you preaching to beat the devil?” When Jesus set His face toward the cross, he said, “Now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” His death defeated the power of evil; isn’t it time that we claim our victory?
It really is a matter of where our passion is. John Wesley told his preachers that we have nothing to do but save souls. How have we become a people who have so much to do that we don’t have a lot of time to worry about souls? Church populations become less, busy becomes more, and our Savior weeps, “How often I would have gathered you…”
Jesus did say that if He would be lifted up that He would draw all people unto Him. He certainly did His part; are we doing ours? Tomorrow is the Lord’s Day, let all who have been blessed and helped by the Lord (and who are able) enter His gates with grateful praise.
Preachers, let us preach to beat the devil! Let the choirs sing to our living Savior; and the rest of us will listen in. We will rejoice and be glad, for great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.
We will lift up the name of Jesus! And if you are tempted to roll over in that bed and stay home. It is God who gives His beloved sleep, so roll out, rise and shine, the bright and shining star will rise; so why not you? We must not let the cold voices of an unbelieving world be more than our Praise to our Living Savior. He Lives! He Lives! We don’t have to wait until Easter; He lives today!
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
