“Sin is crouching at the door.” (Genesis 4:7) – “Behold I stand at the door…” (Revelation 3:20)
“Sin is crouching at your door.” Those are the words that God spoke to Cain when he was pouting because life wasn’t fair. I don’t think that anyone of us would want to answer the door if we saw the person crouching outside. That is what sin does. It sneaks and crouches, waiting until a weak moment in our character cracks the door, then in it leaps. Temptation is always sneaky and crouching; it never stands tall.
Jesus said, “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.” There will always be someone at the heart’s door as long as we live on this earth. Satan will be lurking like a thief or a wolf, but Jesus stands knocking and kindly calling our name. He wants to come in and bring us the joy of life and communion with God.
Who is at the door will be determined by who is on the inside. Jesus said, “Today I must abide at your house.” It is a good thing when we have opened the door to the loving Christ who knocks. Let Him come into our heart and abide in our lives, not as a resident only, but as president.
When we can say, “It is not I who lives, but Christ who lives in me,” then the rascal at the door may be a pest, but no longer a danger. He will never enter a place where Christ abides and rules.
Let us pray the words of a song:
“Into my heart, into my heart,
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus;
Come in today, come in to stay;
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
