“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.…” Ephesians 6:10-12
Ephesians is written to instruct us how to walk together in unity as Christians. God is a very personal God with each one of us, yet we can never forget that we are in His service together. There are no “Lone Rangers” in the army of God.
As the Lord breathes the final words of Ephesians into the writer’s heart, we are encouraged to be strong in the Lord together. We are in spiritual warfare.
A problem seems to be that we become confused about who the enemy is. It is not flesh and blood. We don’t put on the armor of God to fight one another. As hard as it is to believe sometimes, please remember that we are not each other’s enemy.
No one can, or should, fight this battle alone. First know that the battle is not ours (as much as it seems to be) but it is the Lords. Put on the full armor of God and stand with Christ. “Soldiers of Christ, arise, and put your armor on, strong in the strength which God supplies through his eternal Son”
The hymn asks: “Who is on the Lord’s side? Who will serve the King? Who will be His helpers, other lives to bring? Who will leave the world’s side? Who will face the foe? Who is on the Lord’s side? Who for Him will go?”
And a great church answers: “By Thy grand redemption, by Thy grace divine, we are on the Lord’s side; Savior, we are Thine.”
