“You should mind your own business and work with your hands…” 1Thessalonians 4:11
The Clock on the church wall seemed to never be correct. The pastor hung a sign below it that said. “Don’t blame the hands for pointing wrong, the problem goes deeper.”
The same is true for us when we sin. If our hands are doing the wrong things it is because of a deeper problem. Sooner or later we realize that it is not our hands that need fixing, but our hearts.
In the Gospel Jesus healed the withered hand of a man, but he was grieved at the hardness of the people’s hearts. They were angry because he did this on a Sabbath. It is too bad that they would not let him do the same for their withered souls.
What are our hands doing these days? They can tell us something about the condition of our soul.
Jesus’ hands were kind hands. With them he blessed the children, healed the sick, lifted the fallen ones, and opened the eyes of the blind. They pointed the way to Heaven, pulled Peter from the tempestuous sea, and carried a cross up Calvary’s hill.
One look at the print of the nails in those hands, and we will fall at His feet, and cry, “My Lord and my God.” Those nailed scarred hands do all things well, and prove God’s Love for us.
“Jesus’ hands were kind hands,
doing good to all…
Take my hands, Lord Jesus,
let them work for you;
make them strong and gentle,
kind in all I do.
Let me watch you, Jesus,
till I’m gentle too,
till my hands are kind hands,
quick to work for you.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
