“REAL PEACE”

Sometimes a simple song can say what the heart feels.

“Life is a few days of trouble a wise man once said,
But I’ll not complain, I’m sheltered, I’m clothed, and I’m fed.
But many’s the trial my wants and my dreams put me through,
And the only real peace that I have, dear Lord, is in You.”

It is not a scientific test, but a simple reality: Listening to too much news can give you a case of the blues. We continue to say that Covid19 has changed everything. That is not completely accurate; our Lord is the same, and not one jot or tittle of the Bible has changed. The daily news from Heaven is still Good News.

Beyond the physical nightmare of this pandemic are the emotional scars that it has created. Remember that there is a long history of God’s people hitting some low places on the journey of life. This is especially found in many of the psalms. There is almost a common pattern:

1 – We have an awesome God who is in control.
2 – It seems like the world (my world) is falling apart.
3 – I can’t see or hear you Lord; are you there?
4 – I know the Lord is in control, and I will praise him forever. We will get through this.

Someone once said that God did not promise smooth sailing, but a safe landing.

Jesus knew that the cross was in his future, yet he never spoke of it without mentioning what would happen three days after Calvary. Then the darkness would become light, tears would give way to joy, and the sting of death would never again have power over a believer’s life.

This bluegrass tune can take the blues right out of our heart:

“Keep looking beyond troubles and strife, all of the cares of everyday life
Keep looking beyond all of this grief, suffering and woe.
Keep looking toward Heaven the home of the soul.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
