2 Corinthians 4:18

“We don’t look for things that can be seen but for things that can’t be seen. Things that can be seen are only temporary. But things that can’t be seen last forever.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

Faith in God is living while surrounded by the invisible. If we must see it to believe it we have missed the point. Consider when the disciples were in the upper room with the doors bolted shut and Jesus suddenly appeared to them. It wasn’t to teach them that Jesus could now walk through walls, but that He was with them even if they could not see Him. In the same way we know that Christ is with us.

The eternal is mostly invisible to our earthly eyes, and if we say, as Thomas did, “Unless I see I will not believe,” we may be disappointed. Jesus said, “Blessed are the ones who do not see, and yet believe.”

A young soldier was facing battle for the first time. Rumors were rampant about the size and power of the enemy. He was paralyzed by fear when his captain noticed his condition. Being a man of God, he prayed an unusual prayer for that young soldier: “O Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he might see.”

The Bible says that God opened his eyes, and he saw, and behold the mountains were full of horses and chariots of fire. There would be no losing the battle that day, because Almighty God was with them, and is with every believer today, no matter what we are going through.

“There is an unseen hand to me, that leads through waves I cannot see. While going through this world of woe, this hand still leads me as I go. I’m trusting to, the unseen hand, that guides me through this weary land. When some sweet day I’ll reach that strand, still guided by the unseen hand.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
