2 Peter 1:3

I am thankful that we don’t have to carry all of the weight of life at one time; and that grace will always show up at the right time.

Grace is necessary for many things. There is grace to get through our troubles, grace for living and for dying, grace to comfort our sorrows, and grace to hold us in our fears. The list of grace is as numerous as the list of needs we have; yet we are not burdened with the weighty baggage of all that grace at one time. Our wonderful Master distributes it as needed. When I come to the place of need, grace enough will meet me there.

The same is true with the Bible passages that we read. Some passages will only take the full meaning when we come to the places for which they were given. “His strength is in my weakness” will have a richer meaning during the times when our strength is gone. Consolations for sickness, and comfort in sadness, do not have the same feeling for the one who is neither sick nor sad as they do for the ones who are. The Living Word of God meets us where we are in life. There is no other book but the Holy Bible that will do that.

Why do we drag the past behind us, and stack tomorrow’s burdens on today’s shoulders? Have we ever come to the end of a day when God has failed? How many times has there been a surprise blessing that encouraged us to stay in the race? When have we caught ourselves singing a long ago song that suddenly touched our heart today?

“Tho’ the world all around be raging
And it’s filled with many alarms.
Trust in Jesus and He will keep you.
In the shelter of His arms”
