Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
2nd Peter 1:13-15
“I think it is right as long as I am in this body to refresh your memory … and I will make every effort so that after my departure you will be able to recall these things.”
The past is important to our future. We need the reminders and voices of those who led us through our childhood and early years of adulthood. Their fingerprints are on our lives. They helped form us, and we owe them our thankful memories.
I enjoy writing memories because they do my heart good, we all share enough of a common past that hopefully they take you back to times and places you loved to be. I tell the Bible Study group that I am probably not teaching them anything that they do not already know, but maybe we can shake a few of the flakes in the snow globe in our head.
The world does not require so much to be informed as to be reminded. Once I passed a nurse who had stopped on the steps at the hospital. She laughed and said, “I stopped to rest, and now I can’t remember which way I was going.” A pause or a long wait can cause forgetfulness. In today’s text Peter was concerned that while Jesus tarries His coming, Christians may forget where they have been and where they are going.
Our heart sings, “Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word. Tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard. I too love to tell the story because those who know it best “seem hungry and thirsty to hear it like the rest.”
Take a few moments this morning to revisit some of the old paths that led you to Jesus.
“Roll back the curtain of memory now and then.
Show me where you brought me from and
Where I could have been.
Just remember I’m human and human’s forget,
So remind me, remind me dear Lord.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
