2 Kings 6:5

“…Oh, my master, it was borrowed!”

It is a good time to remember that God is very much involved in the daily activities of our ordinary life.

I have chopped a fair amount of wood in times past. Sometimes an axe-head won’t stay on the handle. Such was the case in today’s text.

Some poor guy in the Bible had borrowed an axe to cut down trees. The axe flew off and fell into the river. The man was distressed because it was borrowed. (There were no hardware stores to buy a new one.) Elisha threw a stick into the water and the “iron did swim (float),” and it all ended well.

What do you do with that story? Do you remember the song that says, “It is no secret what God can do, what He has done for others He will do for you?” When things get HEAVY and it is as though life has sunk into the deep, there is good news. If a prophet can make a heavy axe-head float up from the bottom of the Jordan. Just think what God can do for a heavy heart.

Our time on earth is borrowed; we must not lose it in the river of sin and trouble. The cross of Jesus has made it possible for a sunken life to rise to the top again. Whatever is weighing us down today can be lifted from our heavy heart if we are willing to give it to Jesus.

“Days are filled with sorrow and care
Hearts are lonely and drear
Burdens are Lifted at Calvary
Jesus is very near

Burdens are lifted at Calvary
Calvary, Calvary
Burdens are lifted at Calvary
Jesus is very near.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
