Good Things Come to Those That Wait
“Truly my soul waits upon God: from him cometh my salvation.” Psalm 62:1
The cell phone has changed the way we wait. With heads down and fingers texting, no one seems to notice or talk anymore. Is waiting becoming a passing art?
What about waiting on the Lord? Do we wait with anticipation? The Bible says much about waiting and the good that comes to those who do. Such waiting keeps us at the servant’s task while at the same time looking up. I watch Pat as we wait for family or guest to arrive. She keeps working and making sure that everything is perfect and ready. Isn’t that how we should wait on the Lord?
There is also waiting on Prayer. When we seek the Lord in prayer, we should expect that there will be an answer. We need a listening ear, and an open heart to the will of God. Waiting and expecting are like two sides of a valuable coin. However, if you take away either side, the coin becomes worthless. Why wait for what you do not expect; and why expect what you are not willing to wait for?
We know that good things come to those that wait. The Bible says, “Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” (Isaiah 64:4).
The Gospel song prays:
“Teach me Lord to wait down on my knees
Till in Your own good time You answer my pleas
Teach me not to rely on what others do
But to wait in prayer for an answer from You.”
