A cartoon showed Lucy instructing Charlie Brown about life. She begins by saying, “Life is like a deck chair. Some place it so they can see where they are going; and others to see where they have been. Some just want it to be in a place where they can see where they are right now. Then Charlie Brown said, “I can’t even get mine unfolded.”
That is the story for many of us. For some people things seem (and I emphasize the word seem) to always be easy and smooth. For others, things are just frustrating right now. The children of Israel finally escaped Egypt and found themselves caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. Magi use a star for a GPS and lose their signal for a little while in Jerusalem. Disciples go to supper with their Lord, and he ends up crucified.
There is no way to escape it, life can come at you hard from out of nowhere. That is why we can be glad that Jesus walks with us. He sees the path that we do not realize, even if it is right through the middle of the sea. He can, and will, make a way for you and me.
Remember that the people got across the Red Sea, the Magi found Jesus, and Christ is risen. We know that life is a lot more than the unfolding of a chair; We also know that the Lord knows the way we must walk, and the answers we cannot find. “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path.”
