“Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.” Acts 10:5
The Bible has an enormous collection of stories about the little but massive things that people did; and that God never forgot. They could never have imagined that their simple stories would be preserved in God’s Word. These people simply lived out their lives as everyday people who made the best of what came to them.
They were people like Ruth, who in poverty gleaned the fields for food, Shepherds who watched their flock by night, a potter with mud on his hands, fishers, and farmers. The list could go on as, one by one; people from all levels of society did deeds of love and faith that will be remembered eternally in Heaven.
Think back in our own life. How many sermons do you remember? I suspect the number will be few, even though they were helpful at the time. How many deeds of kindness, generosity, and labors of love do you remember?
I challenge you to make a list of some of the things that people said or did that has blessed your life in someway. They were done by people who were not lined up for accolades. They were the ones who just believed that it was important to Love God and their neighbors, they loved us.
People who do such things have short memories. “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?” But Christ never forgets: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
“Does the place you’re called to labor
Seem so small and little known?
It is great if God is in it
And He will not forsake His own
Little is much when God is in it
Labor not for wealth or fame
There’s a crown, and you can win it
If you go in Jesus’ name”
