“You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.” Job 11:16
Job must have found those words hard to believe. Whenever he thought that things could not get any worse; they did. Someone has said that when you are at the end of your rope, you should tie a knot and hold on. The lesson of Job is simple: Do not give up on trusting God. Remember that “GOD blessed Job’s later days even more than his earlier life” (Job 42:12).
The song says, “I’m so glad that troubles don’t last always.” Child of God; whatever you may be going through, there are brighter days ahead. Remember that weeping may remain all night, but joy comes in the morning; and the morning always comes.
How I love this song: “Hold on my child joy comes in the morning; weeping only last for the night. Hold on my child Joy comes in the morning; the darkest hour means dawn is just in sight.”
We have an expression: “That’s water under the bridge.” It means that a trouble or a mistake has already happened and is no longer important. I was the Day Camp Pastor at church camp where I met a young friend. He faced physical challenges that made it impossible for him to do some things that campers do. He and I would spend time each day dropping tree leaves from the bridge into the water. We laughed as we raced our leaves, now the leaves are all downstream and gone, and I wonder about my friend.
Like those leaves, many troubles and trials have come and gone from our lives. There is a river with healing waters that flows from the throne of God. As we pray today; can we imagine that our troubles are like leaves in WATERS GONE BY?
“Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.”
