Run with Endurance the Race That is Set Before Us

Read Hebrews 11:31-12:3 – “…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of faith.”

Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Moses; These names remind us of people who did wonderful things by faith. Most of us know that we will never be like them. Many of the people of faith in the Bible are ordinary people. They did not do notable things because of faith, but they made it through life, and all its trials, by faith. Faith was rewarding to some, and faith made life on earth difficult for others; but they never gave up the race. They knew that there was some better thing beyond the sunset of life.

C. H. Spurgeon said, “Little faith will bring you to Heaven; Great faith will bring Heaven to you.”

The Bible did not say that we would all do remarkable things by faith; but that we would live by it. Most saints are not the saintliest people; some have tarnished records; but they end up with a good report because of faith. I find that to be exceptionally good news.

Do you know that there are folks too good for this world? They live humble and simple lives with their feet on earth, and their heart in Heaven. This world is not their home; they are just passing through; they know not to settle down here because God has provided some better thing. These lovers of God press on by faith that the promise of that eternal and better day will happen, and the entire journey will be worth it all.

“It will be worth it all when we see Jesus! Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of his dear face, all sorrow will erase. So, bravely run the race till we see Christ.”

The green flag for the Christian’s race is waved in this life, and the checkered flag is waved in “a land beyond the river that they call the sweet forever.” Imagine who all is waiting on us there.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
