Even When We Are Weak, We Are Ready to Serve

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” 1 Corinthians 1:27

It was a liberating truth the day that I understood that God did not call me to have all the answers. God has placed immortal tidings in mortal hands, and we are responsible to deliver them without adding our “jot or tittle.” This requires more than theological skills, but a believing heart. The Gospel must be believable to the hearer, or it is of no value, no matter how eloquently we present it.

How blessed we have been who have grown up among Christians who loved the Lord and loved us too. These loved ones cared enough to tell us about Jesus. They were family and they were neighbors; some taught Sunday school lessons; and others gave us a look of correction when we could not sit still in the church pew. It is still true that in the church we can be loved into knowing Jesus; when faith is contagious, people catch it.

God has called every Christian to be a disciple for Christ. We must joyfully give it the best that we can. We still sing, “Give of Your Best to the Master.” He who has called us knows that we are feeble flesh and blood, limited in knowledge, sometimes confused about most everything; and yet, He is excited to hear us say, “Here I am Lord, send me.”

When we are weak, we are ready to serve; because it is then that we lean on the everlasting arms of God. The Bible says it best, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

“Here I am, Lord. Is it I Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
