Not Silver or Gold but Hope and Living Water
“Silver and gold have I not, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Acts 3:6
The man sat by the lonely road begging as people passed by. He had become just another part of the landscape with folks paying no more attention to him than they would a stray dog. The daily reward in his beggar-bag was measly, but today his world was going to change.
The miracle of this story may not be what we think it was. He stood up and walked, that was a wonderful thing, but the greatest miracle of all is when a person receives the gift of Jesus. God gave His Son; Why should He love any of us so much as that.
This is the same miracle that we as Christians can offer every day. Who else can say, “I give you Jesus?”
Friends, we can offer what it takes to put life back into those who live in despair and hopelessness. The early circuit riders went out with one work to do, “Offer them Christ.” Our hands may be empty, yet we can offer something more valuable than silver and gold.
The Holy Spirit enabled Peter and John to notice a man who they had overlooked before. They knew the great wealth they carried with them everywhere they went. They had no need to be stingy with this treasure because their storehouse was full beyond measure. We too have this plethora of wealth to share. There is power in the name of Jesus, and there is enough of God’s grace and love for everyone.
“I give you Jesus,
He’s the peace that passes all understanding;
I give you Jesus,
He’s the perfect love that cast out all fear;
I give you Jesus,
He’s the water that you drink and never thirst again;
Oh I give you Jesus, my friend,
I give you Jesus,
He’s everything, everything you’ll ever need”
