Journey on the Bus Bound for Glory
“Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?” Luke 7:20
There was a popular tourist attraction that entertained thousands of visitors each year. Outside the entrance was a parking lot for buses. The lot was full of buses from many places, all shapes, models, with names of various companies on them. The thing that they had in common was they had successfully arrived at their destination with their passengers. The other thing they shared was that they were empty; the travelers had disembarked and walked through the entrance.
The bus can bring the people to the gate, but no further. Bus parking is outside the fence. I think of local churches and denominations like those buses. They can help us get to the gate, but going inside is as the song says, “Nobody here can walk it for you, you gotta walk it by yourself.”
I am thankful for the bus that Pat and I have been on for many years and miles. It has taken us everywhere the Lord has sent us, and I am convinced it will take us on. The Lord put us on it for his purpose. It is still traveling on the road where people need the Lord. We, each one, must go the way He leads. No one bus is better than another; they all will have to park outside the gate anyway. The question will not be what bus we came on, but “Is our heart right with God?”
John the Baptist was having something like a moment of wondering, “Am I on the right bus, or should I be looking for another?” Jesus said to go back and tell John what they were seeing: The blind see, folks are healed, deaf are hearing, the dead are living, and Good News is being preached to the poor.
When I see the good that has come from above, the lives made better by the name of Jesus, People who have new life because they have met the Savior, joy, peace, and love when the saints all get together. Then any doubt is satisfied; Jesus is still on the bus, and we are bound for Glory!
“I am bound for the Promised Land
I am bound for the Promised Land
Oh who will come and go with me
I am bound for the Promised Land.”
