“Ray Amos – 9-12-2024 – James 4:10”

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4:10

I do not know the dynamics of flying a kite, but I do know that it needs a tail to stabilize it. It keeps the bottom pointed down, and the top pointed into the sky.

The same is true with living by faith. We too need enough of a burden in daily life to stabilize our living. Enough to keep our bottom pointed toward the earth so we realize we don’t live above anyone else; but our heart pointed above where every good and perfect gift comes.

The gospel does not come with, “no strings attached.” Freedom in Christ is not like a kite without a string that is blowing wherever the wind takes it. That kind of freedom always ends up in a wrecked life. A kite flies controlled, yet free, because there is a string attached and the other end is held in someone’s hand.

Christ does not make us free to do as we wish, but free to live the Gospel Way.

The Bible is our string (the truth that sets us free). It lets out enough string for the wind to pick us up; and what a flight! “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles.” We can fly when the other end of the string is held in the hand of God.

“And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
